Mānawatia a Matariki

Happy Matariki to our whaanau and community!

This week, some of the Level 2 and 3 te reo Māori students were joined by some staff and a few other students to plant our pōhutukawa tree in honour of Matariki, and our loved ones who are now stars. Whaea Caseymia spoke to the group about the significance of the rākau before the group shared a karakia and waiata to mark the planting. Mr Smith has created a beautiful sign to go with it so that we can all understand its significance.

Next time you are in the Canteen Courtyard, take a moment at the tree and think about those who this tree acknowledges.
