Thank you for considering Hillcrest High School for the education of your child.
Hillcrest High School is a decile 7 co-educational secondary school with a roll of approximately 1750 students. The school has been successfully serving the Hillcrest community for over 40 years and during this time has developed a very positive reputation in the community, regionally and nationally for delivering a quality educational experience for our students. Teaching and learning is the cornerstone of the school, with a significant number of our students achieving at the very highest level in NCEA and Scholarship.
Hillcrest is an inclusive school with a wide range of nationality groups reflected in a diverse array of languages and cultures. The educational needs and abilities of our students is also reflected in our curriculum as we seek to provide opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful learning pathways to attain the qualifications, skills and competencies they require that will prepare them for life beyond school. As well as the classroom, our students are provided with an extensive range of activities involving Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC), sport, the Arts, performance and culture as well as numerous leadership and community based activities. These opportunities make a significant contribution to our school and in doing so add pride and school spirit, which are all essential in a successful school.
The beliefs and values of Hillcrest High School are based on our core RAPID Values which are firmly embedded in the culture of the school and form the basis of our behavioural management system. Within the framework of these values the school promotes high standards of student conduct and behaviour. Staff and student wellbeing is foremost in our minds as we work collectively to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students, and provide opportunities for our staff to develop professionally and to continually strive to become even better teachers.
Our recently completed Strategic Plan, which has a focus on equity and excellence, provides the school with our vision and future direction and priorities over the next 3 to 5 years. Our plan comprises four Strategic Goals:
1. Meet the needs of all learners
2. Enhance effective teaching practices
3. Hauora – we will care for the wellbeing of all staff and students
4. Whakawhanaungatanga – building culturally meaningful relationships with students, staff and whanau.
We believe these strategic goals will not only address current priorities in the school but also pave the way for the future.
As Principal, I am committed to maintaining and enhancing the success, ethos and culture of Hillcrest High School and to providing a safe and supportive learning environment. We have a challenging but exciting future ahead and we wish to work in partnership with our parents, family, whanau and community as we continue to provide a quality education experience for the students of Hillcrest High School.
